    The Designers' Kitchen Maker

Set within a beautifully reimagined barn conversion, this bespoke oak kitchen brings together striking architecture and exceptional craftsmanship. Combining honest materials, thoughtful design and integrated architectural cladding to create a modern rustic kitchen that feels intrinsic to the building itself. Designed and made by Inglis Hall for Jay Osgerby.

WHY DO SO MANY ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS COME TO INGLIS HALL FOR THEIR BESPOKE KITCHENS?

The simple answer is that we care. We care about everything that goes into the Inglis Hall kitchen experience. We care about flow and performance, longevity, and the profound feeling evoked when you step inside. We care about the choice of timber, the texture, the finish. We care about every single detail.

For us, there is no greater endorsement than having the designer's designer, responsible for shaping decades of influential objects, choose us for his own home. Jay wasn’t looking for someone to simply make his design. He wanted a collaborator.

Designers and makers who’d bring their own expertise and ideas to the table. Jay represents a rare level of discernment. There is no room for superficiality; only material honesty, precision, and integrity.

TWO YEARS ON FROM OUR FIRST MEETING, AND THE STICKS IS FINALLY COMPLETE.

A stunning reconstruction of former cart sheds by the sensitive and imaginative Rural Office - hailed by the Financial Times as a “cathedral of wood.” The cabinetry feels deceptively absent, fulfilling Jay and his wife Helen’s dream for a space that is less overtly "kitcheny." Our signature oak wall cladding conceals the bulk of storage and larger appliances. A fridge freezer and pocket door pantry dissolve completely into the architecture of this timber-framed sanctuary.

DESPITE THE BRIEF TO AVOID LOOKING TOO "KITCHENY," THE SPACE REMAINS A BASTION OF COOKING AND ENTERTAINING.

The large Wolf range lurks ready for serious action, while our joiner’s island answers Jay and Helen’s desire for a kitchen island with seating. Generous overhangs create a table-like feel, made effortlessly light on its feet by traditional joinery. Overhead, the distinctive Signals Light from Gallery Kreo.

Our core philosophies, materials that improve with age, texture, and simplicity are embedded throughout The Sticks. Floors and sarking boards supplied by Dinesen work in perfect harmony with our textured band-sawn wood panelling, hand selected for its variation, rich character and natural quirks. Yet Jay, ever attuned to material poetry, wished to incorporate a new timber – drawn to the wild grain of Douglas Fir.

AND SO, A NEW INGLIS HALL DESIGN WAS BORN.

IHP.612. THE LARDER CUPBOARD. CHALK. ORIGINALLY INSPIRED BY A PAIR OF MAKERS TOOL CABINETS JAY SPOTTED ON HIS FIRST VISIT TO OUR LEWES WORKSHOP.

Captivated by their imposing size and utilitarian charm, Jay was excited, and so were we. Following many sketches and refinements from our design team, they have become the ultimate kitchen tool cupboards. Quintessentially embodying the unfitted ideal, these storage behemoths fully open to reveal exquisitely crafted internals, taking the traditional larder cupboard to an entirely new level.

There is a natural ease to this kitchen. As Leigh, our ever-thoughtful photographer, observed:

“I PHOTOGRAPH MANY KITCHENS, BUT THE FEELING I GET WHEN I ARRIVE AT ANY INGLIS HALL KITCHEN IS THAT IT WAS JUST MEANT FOR THE SPACE, AS IF IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE.”

Leigh is right. Through the unifying thread of considered craftsmanship, great spaces seamlessly integrate into architecture, whether an old farmhouse kitchen, modern country home, or a sleek contemporary build.

So why do so many creative designers and architects come to Inglis Hall? Perhaps because our imaginations match theirs.
